Over the years I’ve fished a number of lakes in PA that are governed by the Big Bass Program. In almost all cases I felt the lakes yielded nice catches of good sized bass. If your looking for some good quality bass fishing these lakes are almost always worth a look.

I always enjoy reading the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission
fish survey data. This article presents some great data indicating that
the trophy bass and panfish enhancement programs can work. When I read
articles like this, I try to pull out information I can use if I decide
to take a fishing trip to the lake. Two things in this article really
caught my eye.

The morning turned out to be a little chilly and windy but the fish were at least somewhat willing. I managed to land 7 smallmouth bass and my partner in crime landed one. Three fish were in the 14-15 inch range while all the others were around 12-13 inches. The smallmouth were in a fairly neutral mood today probably due to the colder than normal weather the past few days. We missed close to as many fish as we landed. I was able to get a visual on several of the fish as they hit our baits. Most just held the bait in their mouth while moving off with it rather than inhaling it. Pictured above is one proud owner of a “dink” smallmouth bass. The pictures of the bigger fish didn’t come out very good. I’m going to have to fire my photographer/fishing buddy! (more…)
