Cameron County toxic spill mass killing of trout and smallmouth bass
Thursday, July 13th, 2006Many of you may already be familiar with the toxic spill last week into Portage Run caused by a train derailment. This is a major spill involving many miles of Portage Run, Driftwood Branch, and Sinnemahoning Creek. I’ve fished this section of water near and below Driftwood. The article focuses on the “trout” kill but there was also a very health population of smallmouth bass in creek. Evidence of this can be found in the photo included with the Post-Gazette article linked to below. This article does a nice job of outlining the extent of this massive fish kill and even provides some maps of the effected area.
