Little Juniata, smallmouth bass are fattening up

Today didn’t feel like loading up the old river jon so I just walked the banks and fished holes I could get to without wading. Despite my “laziness”, I was still able to land some nice fish. The Little Juniata yielded some really fat Smallmouth bass. The fish were a little tentative and it took some coaxing by way of “dead sticking” my baits, but the results were well worth the patience. I was able to land 8 fish and lost two during roughly three hours of fishing. There was only one dinky fish in the bunch. All the others were 13 inches plus with the largest measuring 15 inches.

8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Weather Conditions
Partly cloudy. Air temps in the low seventies.
Water Conditions
Visibility about 3 feet. Water temps not known
Pattern
The fish were mainly at the head of pools in about 2-3 feet of water. The are definitely in fall feeding mode and probably working hard to take up the best feeding positions they can find. The fish I caught were all very healthy and very chunky specimens.!
Baits
I tried a gitzit tube but couldn’t buy a bite. I think the main problem was that the tubes I had with me were just too small to interest the bass. This was probably a good day for a fat tube. I switched over to a 4 inch Yum Dinger and started catching fish. The fish seemed to want the bait on a drift with no action added. The bait was fished with no weight on a Gamakatsu bent shank worm hook.
