The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is considering changes to the current list of approved wild trout waters. There are several proposals to be discussed which include taking streams off the list, adding some streams to the list, and making amendments to some of the streams currently on the list. Most importantly they are inviting anyone who has comments to submit them in writing or via the web.

I was pondering how I could help anglers who are interested in fishing for smallmouth bass but have questions about where to start. I decided the easiest way to help newbies to smallie fishing would be to come up with a top five soft plastics baits list.
Any time you list “top” baits its going to be at least a little controversial. I’m not a big believer in top bait lists but I am a believe in using the right lure at the right time. The top five list I’ve developed is really aimed at listing an arsenal of soft plastics that can cover a wide range water conditions, structure, and depths to ensure you have the right bait for the right conditions.
And the drum role please….

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines! Another Pennsylvania trout season opener is just around the corner. As a young lad, I can honestly say that I had more trouble sleeping the night before trout season opened than I did on Christmas eve. Yes, hard to believe but true! In this post I’ll cover some of the equipment “essentials” of fishing for trout on the first day here in the great state of Pennsylvania.

Go to any fishing forum on the internet and you’ll find the topic of rod selection somewhere in the top 20 threads. Invariably, you’ll read folks posts about their opinions on the best jig and pig rod, spinner bait rod, or finesse bait rod. Many times you’ll find some great pearls of wisdom. However, mixed with those pearls of wisdom you’ll also find the word “action” misused many times over. That’s what this article is all about. Setting the record strait on “action” vs “power”.
