Kettle Creek, Pensylvania Fishing Report

My recent absent mindedness created an opportunity of a buddy and I to get in some extra fishing this week. I had been fishing this past weekend near the Kettle Creek area and stopped for a bite to eat at the Kettle Creek Inn. To make a long story short, I left my new “guide series” wading jacket hanging in the restaurant. A quick call to the Inn verified that my jacket was in fact still there safe and sound so my fishing buddy and I headed out to retrieve my jacket and take a quick trip to the creek to see if we could entice some Kettle Creek smallies. Well, it wasn’t the best day on the water I’ve ever had but it definitely was a learning experience We fished a small stretch of kettle creek for about 1.5 hours and came up with only 3 smallmouth bass for out efforts.

Weather Conditions

  • Sunny, partly cloudy
  • Air Temperature 65 degrees

Water Conditions

  • Slightly Murkey
  • visibility 4 feet
  • water levels were a little higher than normal flow this time of year.

Fish Caught

3 smallmouth caught in abour 1.5 hours of fishing. Smallmouth caught were 8″, 13″, and 15″ respectively. No lunkers caught today!

Baits

Fished a combination of crankbaits, swim baits, and soft stickbaits. All the fish were caught on 4 inch Yum Dingers texposed rigged.

Comments on pattern

The biggest fish of the day was caught at the tail end of a long deep pool. The other two fish came off of major current breaks in about four feet of water. The water was a little hight and cold. The smallmouth in Kettle Creek are just about to spawn. One of the fish I caught was a fat female loaded with eggs. All fish were returned without harm. You can check out my article on spring time tactics for smallmouth if you want more details of how I caught these fish.

For fun, I included a map of the Kettle Creek Inn. Great food can be found as well as friendly staff!
