Little Juniata River, Pennsylvania Fishing Report
Posted by PA-Smallies at 10:32 AM. Filed under: Uncategorized
The water was cold and I believe the fish still have not spawned in the river. A few fishing buddies and I hit the Little J for about 3 hours. I was the winner of a free lunch for catching the most fish. I landed 10 smallies in about 3 hours of fishing. Only one other fish was caught by our crew of smallie chasers.
Time of Day
- 9 a.m. to about noon
Weather Conditions
- Sunny, few clouds
- air temperatures in the mid to high 60’s
Water Conditions
- higher than normal (per USGS data)
- water clarity about 2 feet
- water temps were definitely below 65 degrees
Baits
- Pumpkin /chartrues Yum Dingers, 4 inch
- Wild eye, swim shad: color, chartrues and white
Fish Caught
We caught 11 total smallmouth in about three hours of fishing. Noting really big. Largest fish was pushing 15 inches. The remainder of the fish were in the 12 to 13 inch range.
Comments on Pattern
The water was cold and high. We isolated one particular spot where we caught all but 1 of the smallmouth. The 5 yard long “spot” combined sun and large rock formations along the bank which created excellent pockets of still water were the bass were holding. It was a very light bite due to the high cold water. Most fish were caught on the Yum Dinger.
