My daughter’s home from camp this weekend & I’d like to take her back out on the kayak. We’ve fished the Juniata from Granville to Victory Park in Lewistown 4-5 times, but I’d like to try somewhere new. Any recommendations on Faylor or Walker Lakes, or Lake Perez?
Thanks,
Ramcat
Ramcat,
Not sure what the water will be like on the river this weekend. Depends on the rain.A lake might be your safest bet. Lake pereze, unfortunately, has been drained down for some time. That lake had some BIG largemouth in it’s hay day!
I’ve never fished Walker or Faylor but they look like nice options for an easy day in the kayak and the chance at some decent fish. Based on some quick research, I’d say walker is the best choice for quality and variety. check out the links below. I think i want to fish Walker this weekend!

Hope this helps..let me know how you do!
Walker Lake it is (or was!) I got there early Saturday morning and found a few cars in the parking lot, along with several folks fishing from shore near the launch. I unloaded the kayak and fished the right side of the lake toward the dam. Water was up, visibility about 1 foot. Using a shallow running crankbait, I caught an 18″ largemouth in the first 5 minutes. After that, nothing until I switched to a smoke & silver 4″ grub. I caught 2 10-12″ largemouths and was ready to give up and switch lures when I hooked another big largemouth. This one was 17″ and a little heavier than the first. Great first trip to Walker Lake!
Wow! now I know I need to hit that lake! A shallow running crankbait is a sweet deal when the water is rising and muddy..and the fish are pressed to the banks! I’ve caught several really big bass this year throwing a shallow running crank! I’m working on a article right now for smallmouths.com on crankbait fishing. It will probably take me a few more weeks to finish though.
Smoked grub? man looks like I’ll need to start throwing some of my grubs that are gathering dust in my 360 boxes!
