Hard fighting smallmouth bass being brought to the kayak
Day two of my fishing vacation definitely didn’t go as planed Fishing was TOUGH!! I talked to several people on the river and there was a consensus. Everyone as doing way more fishing than catching! I fished all day with just a lunch break. I threw about everything in my tackle box at the fish. I caught one smallmouth bass in the early morning on a suspending jerkbait. I caught two more in the late evening on a tiny torpedo.
I also lost a HUGE smallmouth tonight. The fish inhaled my torpedo. The fish was definitely pushing the 20 inch mark! I tossed my torpedo on a current seem and the fish jumped all over it after a couple of jerk..and pauses. The fish shot straight under my kayak shaking his head. I couldn’t keep up with the fish and had too much slack which enabled the fish to shake the topwater bait loose. DANG!
The fishing was tough today. The water levels are good but the visibility is not. Visibility is ranging from 1 foot in some sections of the river to a couple of feet in other sections. I haven’t been able to establish a pattern. I’ve tossed about ever bait into ever “fishy” looking spot and just can’t figure it out!
I was going to make my way up river to another campground and area but I’ve decided to stay! It’s personal now! I’ve got to figure these fish out. I’ve arrange to stay another day at the campground and I’ve got a shuttle set up for early a.m. tomorrow. ‘Well, I’ve got to hit the hay! It’s getting late. I’ve got a 6+ mile float set up. I’ll try to get another report out after my float trip tomorrow.
