My recent absent mindedness created an opportunity of a buddy and I to get in some extra fishing this week. I had been fishing this past weekend near the Kettle Creek area and stopped for a bite to eat at the Kettle Creek Inn. To make a long story short, I left my new “guide series” wading jacket hanging in the restaurant. A quick call to the Inn verified that my jacket was in fact still there safe and sound so my fishing buddy and I headed out to retrieve my jacket and take a quick trip to the creek to see if we could entice some Kettle Creek smallies. Well, it wasn’t the best day on the water I’ve ever had but it definitely was a learning experience We fished a small stretch of kettle creek for about 1.5 hours and came up with only 3 smallmouth bass for out efforts.

A few hours on the water today yielded a few bass. My fishing buddy and I caught a combined total of twelve smallmouth bass. All the fish were caught on a combination of soft crawfish imitations and Yum Dingers. The bite was very light today for some reason and I missed almost as many fish as I hooked up with. I threw together a very brief video clip of a couple of the fish we caught.

I was passing by the Juniata River today and had a couple of hours to kill so I decided to do some smallmouth bass fishing. My choice of gear was limited but I was still able to catch some nice fish. All I had with me was a couple offset worm hooks, two Yum-Dingers, and a couple of hellgrammite imitations. Armed with this handful of lures I was able to land five smallmouth bass in about an hour and a half of walking the banks. The smallest fish was 13 inches and the largest 16 inches.

The weather reports I’ve seen thus far look very encouraging. Of course we all know weather reports and the weather can change on a dime. Fishing should be good to excellent this weekend. The trout fishing has been great in the local streams and the fish activity in some of the lakes is really starting to peak. Here’s the scoop..

Well folks this could shape up to be a very nice fishing week end. Warm temperatures in the high 60’s and sunny skies are predicted throughout the weekend. Trout fishing should be excellent this weekend. Also, with the warm weather panfish like crappie and perch should be strapping on the feed bag. Those of you who are headed for Sayers Dam, Bald Eagle State Park should be in for some good fishing
