March trout fishing on Spring Creek, Central PA

brtrout.thumbnail.JPGCabin Fever Finally got the best of me! I headed out for the lower part of spring creek armed with my trusty spinning rod and some home made spinners. I was also wearing the newest addition to my fishing gear. A Dry-Plus wading jacket by By Cabelas. I’ve worn the jacket a few times this winter while fishing and I plan to post a review of the jacket in the very near future. The fishing results were mixed but all and all a pretty darn good hour or so on the water. Just what the doctor ordered!

Trout Fishing in Central Pennsylvania

Here’s a nice little video that give a quick overview of some of the excellent trout fishing in central Pennsylvania. The video specifically mentioned Spring Creek which is one of the premier trout streams on the east coast. As a testament to the great fishing here in Central Pennsylvania, this years Youth World Fly-Fishing Finals is being held in Centre County this weekend.

opener2004 0978Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines! Another Pennsylvania trout season opener is just around the corner. As a young lad, I can honestly say that I had more trouble sleeping the night before trout season opened than I did on Christmas eve. Yes, hard to believe but true! In this post I’ll cover some of the equipment “essentials” of fishing for trout on the first day here in the great state of Pennsylvania.

Top five “live” baits for trout on opening day

This is the time of the year when Pennsylvania fishermen check and recheck their gear in anticipation of the first day of trout season that we fondly refer to as “opening day”. It is also the time of year when you’re buddy will ask “hey, what are you using on the first day”. Most fishermen are fairly tight-lipped when confronted with this question. Well, not me. I aim to let the cat out of the bag and list my top five trout baits for opening day!
