Juniate River, Pennsylvania fishing report

Juniata River Smallmouth Bass

What a great day on the water! We spent 5 hours wading and fishing the Juniata River with very good success. I landed 18 smallmouth bass and my two fishing buddies combined for 8 smallmouth. No monster were caught today but we did catch a couple around 16 inches. The nice thing was that we didn’t have to deal with the little guys. Only a couple of the fish were under 10 inches.

Joseph Foster Sayers Dam, Pennsylvania Fishing Report

The crappie are definitely biting at Sayers Dam now. It took a while for the water to reach spawning temperature but things are now in full swing. The crappie are a little on the small side but I suspect as time goes on the big boys and girls will move in shallow.

UPDATE JUNE 2 2008: I made a quick trip out this evening. The bigger crappie seem to be moving shallower now making them easier to catch for us bank fisherman on the lake. Hot spots for crappie on Sayers Dam include, Upper Greens Run, Lower Greens Run, Hunters Run, and the bridge that spans the lake.

Juniata River, Pennsylvania fishing report

Today was on of the warmest and sunniest days so far this spring. The smallmouth responded helping me complete one of the best “quality” days I’ve had on the river. The numbers were fair but the size of the fish was just flat out FUN! I landed 22 fish and lost about 5 during a four hour stretch of fishing. Only two of my fish were under 13 inches and the largest was 17. Two of the Smallmouth I lost would have pushed the 20 inch barrier!. Oh, and it gets better. The remainder of the fish were like cookie cutters falling in the 14 to 16 inch ranger. Yes, before you doubters start. All the fish were measured by my trusty de-liar..you know, my tape measure. Feel free to read on to get the details!

Fish and Boat Commission to Evaluate Walleye Stockings in Susquehanna, Lehigh and Allegheny Rivers

Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has announced that it has stopped walleye fry stockings in the Susquehanna, Lehigh and Allegheny rivers on an experimental basis. Fry are young fish in their early stage of life, from one to three weeks old.

“We have been stocking walleye fry in portions of these rivers where spawning habitat was believed to be poor,” said Dave Miko, PFBC Chief - Division of Fisheries Management. “In some of these waters, dams restricted the ability of walleye to move freely throughout the river. However, the recent removal of dams or the improvement of fish passage over these dams has provided walleye with increased access to spawning areas.”

Little Juniata River, Pennsylvania Fishing Report

The water was cold and I believe the fish still have not spawned in the river. A few fishing buddies and I hit the Little J for about 3 hours. I was the winner of a free lunch for catching the most fish. I landed 10 smallies in about 3 hours of fishing. Only one other fish was caught by our crew of smallie chasers.
