Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is reminding anglers to report tagged smallmouth bass in order to help the agency with a population assessment on a section of the lower West Branch of the Susquehanna River.
The commission is currently conducting the assessment and an angler survey on about seven miles of the lower West Branch of the Susquehanna River from the vicinity of Muncy downstream to Montgomery, Lycoming County.

The latest Regional fishing reports for Pennsylvania have been posted on the PFBC website. There not real specific but they are useful for letting you know in general how the fishing has been in particular regions of Pennsylvania. I like the reports because sometimes I learn of new lakes or stream.

It was a day of smallmouth “dinks” in the West Branch of the Susquehanna today. A fishing partner and I explored a new section of this river. We fished for about 4 hours. I landed 24 smallmouth bass and my fishing buddy landed 11 smallmouth. Only three of my fish were respectable measuring in the 13-14 inch range. My fishing buddy didn’t fair much better with most of his fish around 10 inches or so. Lots of action but little in the way of quality is the best I can do to sum up the trip. On the upside, I will say that I think the water we fished has potential. I’ll just have to spend some time getting to know the area to locate the bigger fish.

What a great day on the water! We spent 5 hours wading and fishing the Juniata River with very good success. I landed 18 smallmouth bass and my two fishing buddies combined for 8 smallmouth. No monster were caught today but we did catch a couple around 16 inches. The nice thing was that we didn’t have to deal with the little guys. Only a couple of the fish were under 10 inches.

The crappie are definitely biting at Sayers Dam now. It took a while for the water to reach spawning temperature but things are now in full swing. The crappie are a little on the small side but I suspect as time goes on the big boys and girls will move in shallow.
UPDATE JUNE 2 2008: I made a quick trip out this evening. The bigger crappie seem to be moving shallower now making them easier to catch for us bank fisherman on the lake. Hot spots for crappie on Sayers Dam include, Upper Greens Run, Lower Greens Run, Hunters Run, and the bridge that spans the lake.
